Britain Overtakes Japan in Gaming Sales! Could we really be more of a gaming fanatical country than Japan? Well, apparently we are according to a recent study conducted by GfK-ChartTrack. This means we are now in second place, just behind the USA. Please note this is not about gaming consoles, but rather about gaming charts. However the two are very much related.
In the first 5 weeks of 2009, sales are up 37%, and revenue up 21%. This amid the global economic doom and gloom. Buy how can this be explained.
Most Japanese gamers already own either a DS or PSP, so the market has become saturated. The PS3 has also had a shocking performance in terms of sales, and contributed to less games being sold. It will be interesting to see how 2009 pans out for chart sales in general.
Now, apparently there have been 9 miilion sales of the DS. So, if everyone in the UK who bought a DS would buy the new DSI console, then Japan would truly be kicked way of the list.
